Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was natural for doubts to be asked about his future after a further heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in twelve matches, marking the team's worst streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got a lot of backing from management,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to turn it around and get a victory of course but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He added, “I accept my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with The Board
When asked to provide details on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “Through standard exchanges I sense the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this match so far so let’s see.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Reaction
Slot highlighted known weaknesses from his team in their Champions League loss, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his view of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't need to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a spell like this with performances this poor.”
He finished, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we'll continue to compete.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to its rightful place, prove once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it must improve.”
