Cameron Norrie secured the most important victory of his career by coming back from a set down to beat world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz with a stunning comeback in the second round of the Paris Masters.

While he had previously beaten Alcaraz on two prior meetings, this triumph marks Norrie's maiden success over a current world number one.

"Massive. So big for me," stated Norrie, who joins as the latest English competitor in the record books to overcome a top-ranked player. "Returning from health issues last year, I was defeated in the initial match of qualies here. I just sought to enjoy my tennis in the closing months of the year. To secure a victory like this, it's the biggest victory of my tennis journey, my maiden triumph over the top player and likely the strongest athlete in the tennis scene right now."

The British player, positioned 31st globally, also stopped Alcaraz's impressive sequence of nine straight final appearances and 17 straight Masters 1000 wins, which represented the top run of outcomes in the Spanish star's developing professional path.

The top seed appeared to be progressing easily to success in the beginning as he eased through the first set. However, Norrie steadily worked himself into contention by delivering with improved accuracy and dragging the Spaniard into prolonged, physical points.
