Citizens have come together across the country to commemorate 24 months since the Hamas-initiated offensive on October 7th, 2023, as talks advanced in the neighboring country over an end to the war in the Gaza Strip.

The assault saw in excess of 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others abducted away to Gaza as captives. It was the single deadliest day for Jewish people since the World War II.

Israel answered by launching a military offensive in Gaza which has killed more than 67,000 people, according to the region's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its statistics are regarded as reliable by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"Our violent adversaries have hit us hard, but they have not overcome us," Benjamin Netanyahu remarked on Tuesday.

He also vowed to "achieve all the objectives of the war: the homecoming of all the kidnapped, the elimination of the Hamas regime and the assurance that Gaza will no longer create a threat to Israel".

Remembrance Gatherings Across Israel

The Israeli government rescheduled formal remembrance events until October 16th - after the completion of the festive season - but ceremonies still occurred around the country on that day.

A commemorative event for the loved ones of people who died in the Hamas incident was conducted in Tel Aviv. Put together by the families themselves, it was aired across Israeli broadcast stations.

Hours earlier, a silent tribute was held around the country.

Negotiation Talks in Egypt

Simultaneously, the conflicting parties' negotiating teams met in the Egyptian coastal city of the Egyptian city for a continuing round of indirect talks to discuss the conditions of the agreement.

A prominent delegate involved in the discussions said that an late session of mediated discussions started at 7 PM local time.

The source said the earlier meeting ended without concrete outcomes, because of disagreements over the proposed Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas seeks to make certain Israel does not resume fighting after the initial stage of the agreement.

He commented that the discussions are "challenging and have yet to achieve any significant progress," but mentioned that facilitators are working hard to close the gaps between the two sides.

Essential Points in Discussions

  • A permanent truce
  • The swap of the captives still held by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The pullout of troops from Gaza
  • Arrangements for assistance provision
  • Post-war administration of the territory

Public Sentiment

In the city's memorial area previously, 29-year-old a woman - whose sibling survived the incident on the gathering, where hundreds were killed and many more were captured by Hamas fighters - shared: "Nowhere seems like home anymore and until every captive are released none of us will have peace of mind."

"After we see everybody home once more, we can breathe once more. Then we can commence recover," she added.

In front of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's home in the capital, people gathered to express their support for the families of the hostages. Israel reports 48 remain in detention in Gaza, 20 of whom are considered to be alive.

Activist one woman stated: "We need do any agreement needed for the captives to be released. But we sincerely need assurances that we will be secure."

Opinion polls now frequently demonstrate that approximately the majority of Israeli citizens want the hostilities to finish in return for the freedom of the hostages.

Palestinian Circumstances

At the location of Nova festival, mourners came together to remember the victims.

From the site, the boom of military attacks and shelling could be detected just a short distance away in Gaza, where witnesses reported the heavy Israeli attacks persisted.

In the main city, air and artillery strikes were documented in the early hours of Tuesday in the western district, area and Nasr districts and in the eastern neighbourhood of the community, as well the camp to the north-west.

"When the evening arrives, the dread arrives with it," displaced urban resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose teenage son was lost his life by an Israeli air strike previously, explained.

"My family are fearful of the attacks. During nighttime we are resting together, embracing, particularly my smallest child who rests his head on me the entire evening."

"Constantly we monitor the updates to see developments. And I'm worried that this truce will not be achieved and that the conflict will come back to us."

Medical Emergency

The medical facility in Gaza City said it had received the bodies of six people by the afternoon, including a trio killed in an Israeli strike in the south part district.

Nasser hospital in the south region of that area indicated additional dead people had been transported. An individual was killed by Israeli soldiers while looking for help to the southern area, medical staff said.
