That Gruesome Cartoon Film Ending That Lingers Fans
Among all the mature cartoon movies I have ever watched, no other has lingered in my mind as much as the fear-filled finale of a viscerally violent and deeply subversive 2022 movie Unicorn Wars.
Back in 2015’s, the Spanish filmmaker developed a grim, bleak , frequently brutal world with a few small , forlorn twinges of optimism.
While The Unicorn Wars seems like it originated from a desire to expand the medium further, the filmmaker stated that it was more an attempt to express a widespread, cross-cultural message about “the common origin of every conflict.”
This theme is conveyed by means of a band of vividly colored bears , obviously inspired by a popular series of lovable figures.
Maturing in a community built around militarism and the defense industry, a lot of the bears are obsessed with killing the mythical beasts, due to a holy book which states the bears they previously were kings of the woodland, before these creatures drove them out.
Some haven’t fully fallen for the propaganda, and would rather experiment with substances and mate in the forest.
In contrast to their gentle equivalents, these colorful critters display sexual organs and definite libidos.
For a certain particularly cruel, cynical bear, the character Bluey, the war against the unicorns becomes a route toward dominance — and specifically to supremacy above his more tender, kinder brother the bear Tubby.
The character is a bully , an apparent antisocial figure , and as horror dominates his group and kills his comrades sequentially, he takes progressively control for himself, through ever more gory, damaging approaches.
Simultaneously, the horned creatures are suffering their own terror, as a spreading, harmful creature in their woods.
“At the beginning, it seems like a lighthearted film,” the filmmaker stated. “However it turns into a more intense and sorrowful film. And in the finale, it’s a horror film.”
The Unicorn Wars begins similar to one of the more playful movies from a legendary filmmaker, that uncover a wicked pleasure in allowing drawn beings curse, fire weapons, or sex each other up.
Subsequently it evolves into more akin to a darker work from the same director, including ever more graphic violence and a tangible link to the actual suffering of conflict.
Ultimately, it becomes a full-on extreme drama massacre.
The terror that makes the film an ideal spooky-season viewing begins a lot earlier than that description suggests.
The Unicorn Wars is one for the devoted lovers of violence, for enthusiasts of extreme cinema who desire to view a film they’ve never watched previously, and are able to withstand a story that pulls no restraint.
View it in a dimly lit space without any distractions, and that ending will crawl deep within you and take up residence there.
