Antony Price, the groundbreaking UK-based designer who crafted many legendary styles associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and theatrical styles, such as the soft-colored suits that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

Price's death comes just weeks after he presented his newest line in London, his first in more than 30 years. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price moved to London at the start of the 1960s to study at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he started his work in clothing for men at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He founded his own label in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show opened with creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to blend tailoring for all genders along with his expert craftsmanship in designing form-fitting garments made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.

In the 1990s, he commenced designing pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including several ensembles for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price presented his final runway show in London last month in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Theatrical Flair: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

Design circles laments the passing to a authentic original whose influence on style and culture remains deeply ingrained.
